It is one of the largest civil projects ever undertaken by the state of Missouri, as well as one of the most expensive transportation projects per square foot ever designed in the Midwest. This is due to the sophisticated demands placed on the structure which must absorb the impact of a 1.25 million pound commercial aircraft landing directly upon it. The tunnel utilized over 60,000 cubic yards poured in-place concrete w/ a large quantity of Architectural Concrete. As well as 680 pre-cast/pre-stressed concrete roof panels weighing 42,000 lbs. each. Photos courtesy of Lambert St. Louis International Airport |
