Numerous factors can affect the quality of the air inside our buildings. Human behavior, ventilation, home products such as detergents, furniture and building materials – all can emit volatile organic compounds (VOC), which have an influence on the air in confined spaces.

MAPEI has developed solvent-free products with low VOC emissions. These products can help guarantee good air quality inside the buildings where they are used, for the well-being of both those who use and apply the products as well as those who use the buildings.

Many MAPEI products carry The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Green Label Plus (GLP) certifications, which signify low VOC emissions and compliance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.2 (widely known as CA Section 01350). CDPH Standard Method v1.2 is the most widely used standard in North America for VOC testing and for evaluating VOC emissions for building products including flooring.

CRI GLP is an independent testing program certifying that our flooring adhesives and sealants have low VOC emissions, thereby helping to improve indoor air quality.

Additionally, MAPEI performs in-house chamber testing of VOC emissions for its mortars, grouts, patching compounds and self-leveling products.

MAPEI provides a wide selection of low-VOC products. Our VOC emission certifications can be requested through MAPEI’s Sustainability Team.

In addition to CRI GLP, MAPEI is proud to announce our transition to SCS Global Services’ Indoor Advantage Gold™. To be certified to the Indoor Advantage Gold™ standard, products must be independently tested by SCS-approved labs following specific protocols for measuring Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions. Indoor Advantage Gold™ ensures full compliance with the California Department of Public Health's “Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources.” Certification qualifies products to earn credit under U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED version 4, Living Building Challenge’s Health and Happiness Imperative, and other widely adopted green building rating systems.
