The contract T208 of the Thomson-East Coast Line refers to the tunnel spanning from Woodlands South station to Springleaf station. The track between these two stations is one of the longest on the Thomson-East Coast line, spanning a length of 4,500m. The contractor, Leighton & John Holland JV, was awarded the job for contract T208. Tunnel boring machines were supplied by NFM Technologies from France, a new entrant in Singapore. Three tunnel boring machines were used so far for the excavation of this stretch of the tunnel. Tunnel excavations are still in progress. Mapei UTT team initiated contact with NFM and introduced our products (oil and grease) for their TBM. Tests were conducted to attest our products compatibility with their machine and were approved by NFM. The next approach is to the contractor, Leighton & John Holland JV. Our proposals for other products pertaining to backfill grout and bentonite for slurry TBM were further supported with laboratory tests conducted in our laboratory to prove our products workability. Results were favourable and well received by the contractor. Our UTT team’s prompt technical support on-site and expertise further added value that convinced the contractor and TBM supplier to undertake complete Mapei’s solutions for supply to NFM’s TBMs in the other contracts for the Thomson-East Coast Line. Mapei’s solid reputation as a trusted supplier proven by other tunnelling projects in Singapore: Circle Line, Downtown Line, also facilitated in their final decision. |
