Ground conditioning agent for mechanized tunnelling with TBM
Where to use Mapedrill IF555 finds employment as ground conditioning agent during excavations with Earth Pressure Balance Shields (EPBS). These machines can ensure good advance performances especially in clays and silts, but drilling operations could become difficult in sandy and gravely soils. In these conditions, the only use of the traditional foaming agent can be not enough. Therefore, Mapedrill IF555 should be mixed with the excavated soil in order to improve its internal cohesion and to avoid any segregation between water and conditioned soil. Segregation phenomena could lead to dangerous decreases of the pressure in the excavation chamber.Furthermore, the ground conditioned with Mapedrill IF555 is easier to be extracted by the screw conveyor.
Consumption The dosage of Mapedrill IF555 is normally between 2 and 6% in weight by weight of injected water. The consumption depends on several factors, such as: • the size of the particles present in the ground; • the characteristics of the foaming agent which could be used in combination with the Mapedrill IF555; • the natural water content present in the excavated ground; • etc.Our laboratories are available for assessing the dosage of Mapedrill IF555 with the soil types met during tunnelling. To make the best use of Mapedrill IF555 it is recommended to contact our “Underground Technology Team” technical service to verify and improve the characteristics, according to the local application conditions.
Packaging Mapedrill IF555 is available in 1730 kg mega drums.
