Cementitious grouts that meet the minimum requirements EN 13888 and ISO 13007-3 are classified as CG1 for normal performance. If they meet the requirements of additional performance characteristics on high abrasion resistance (A) and reduced water absorption (W), they can be classified as improved grouts under classes CG2W, CG2A or CG2WA. The table below shows the fundamental and additional requirements for cementitious tile grouts:
Apart from the performance requirements specified by the standards, tile grouts may also have additional characteristics such as water-repellency. This property prevents liquid that falls onto the surface of the grout line to be absorbed immediately. Liquid remain longer on the surface so they may be cleaned off before staining the grout, thereby increasing its durability. Another possibility is “hygiene grouts” that contain a special additive which impedes the formation and proliferation of surface mould in damp areas such as Ultracolor Plus.
