Waterproofing and protection of the pier support posts
Supply of products needed for waterproofing and protecting the support posts of the wharf/pier ETPO called on MAPEI. "We regularly work with MAPEI products, particularly on civil engineering sites. Given the constraints of the Grue Noire site, we were looking for a durable product that would prevent water from penetrating the concrete at high tide, with a long use time and quick drying," says Noémie Deniaud. Florian Chaudru, MAPEI construction chemistry business manager in the Nantes region, then recommended MAPELASTIC, an elastic mortar particularly suited to coastal areas, exposed to the action of sea water and to sulfates and chlorides. Once the product had been validated, a product demonstration on site provided an opportunity to review the implementation, already familiar to ETPO's colleagues. "We had to treat up to 4 meters below the jetty, stopping just above the tidal zone so as not to trap the moisture in the concrete. Scaffolding installed at minus 2 meters first made it possible to manually treat the entire underside of the slab as well as the beams," explains Noémie Deniaud. For the second phase of the project, ETPO called on rope access technicians who, at low tide, went down to apply MAPELASTIC with a brush on the bottom of the posts, above the water level, before the tide rose. With a usage time of up to one hour and fairly rapid drying, MAPELASTIC perfectly meets the constraints of the site related to the tides and the difficult access of the scaffolding. |
