Deerfield Beach, Florida — MAPEI’s new Mapesonic RM high-performance acoustic underlayment is changing interior living conditions for the better. The premium rubber membrane is designed to reduce the passage of ambient and impact sound transmissions for ceramic tile and stone installations. “Mapesonic RM is ideal for applications in high-density situations such as apartments, condos, college dormitories, classrooms and office buildings – really anywhere where people are living and working in multi-floor arrangements,” said Sonya Moste, Brand Manager for MAPEI North America.
Composed of dense post-consumer rubber, Mapesonic RM provides the dual uses of sound reduction and crack isolation. Available in thicknesses of 3/16" or 5 mm (Mapesonic RM 5) as well as 3/8" or 10 mm (Mapesonic RM 10), the dense rubber reduces impact noise when used as an underlayment as part of a tile or stone installation system. In fact, Impact Insulation Class (IIC) acoustical testing yields results of 50 to 64, depending on floor/ceiling assembly.
In addition to noise reduction, Mapesonic RM helps to prevent existing and future in-plane substrate cracks with movement up to 1/8" (3 mm) from transmitting through ceramic tile and natural stone. The premium rubber underlayment passes the “High Performance” requirements of ANSI A118.12, Section 5.4. And because it contains 82% post-consumer and 1% pre-consumer recycled content, it is GreenCircle certified.
“With this new premium rubber underlayment, MAPEI is helping neighbors live and work in peace,” Moste said. “And Mapesonic RM carries a lifetime warranty when it is used as part of a high-performance MAPEI installation system.”
