Other Located on the island of Penang, and commonly referred to as the “The Rice Miller Development”, the main thrust of this project was the conversion of old, disused godowns (warehouses) into residences, a boutique hotel, restaurants and other commercial outlets. These buildings have stood neglected for many years and were badly rundown. The architectural challenge is to revive the waterfront part of the port city, once a thriving commercial centre, while preserving evidence of the social evolution of the city of Georgetown in an area which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project enhanced Penang’s reputation as a tourist destination.
