Adhesive zinc plates applied directly on the surface of structures for galvanic cathodic protection against the corrosion of reinforcement rods in concrete. Mapeshield E comprises a 99.9% pure zinc plate with a thickness of 250 µm. The zinc sheet is easy to apply on the surface of the structure thanks to the adhesive gel, which is also an excellent ionic conductor. The anodes are applied on structures where corrosion is already present or where corrosion could be easily formed. They prevent the formation of newly formed corrosion and reduce/block corrosion phenomenon already under way. The degree of protection depends on the area of the surface covered by the anodes and the density of the reinforcement in the structure. Once applied on the structure; in order to make the system function correctly, they must be connected to the reinforcement rods using the metal connectors. Once installed, the zinc contained in the anodes is consumed thanks to the difference in electric potential between the two metals to keep the reinforcement rods clean and protected over the years.
