The process of waterproofing continues to generate a high percentage of failures within the building industry. This results in significant inconvenience to the occupants and high cost of rectification.
It is less likely that the application of a waterproofing membrane onto a solid surface will be the cause of a loss of integrity of the waterproofing, rather the detailing component of the waterproofing process will more commonly be to blame for many of the failures reported in the industry. Penetrations for tap and rose outlets, waste flanges and junctions / joints between walls and floors are areas that commonly result in breaches of the waterproofing systems integrity and subsequent water damage results. Not always are these breaches immediately obvious and considerable damage can be caused before they are identified and or addressed. Getting the complete waterproofing system right in the first instance is the best solution.
In recent developments, Mapei have made the process of detailing penetrations and junctions “easy”, extremely effective, economical and fast for the waterproofing applicator to incorporate into the waterproofing membrane system on the job site, thanks to Mapeband Easy.
Mapeband Easy is a rubber tape sandwiched between two layers of non-woven fabric to form waterproof elastic joints, penetration seals and to reinforce junctions. So what makes it so “easy”?
The Mapeband Easy product is simple to apply and join using any of Mapei’s Mapelastic, Aquaflex or Mapegum WPS flexible waterproofing membranes, meaning there is no need for any solvent based adhesives to join the bandage. The Mapeband Easy is available in 30 metre rolls, pre-formed internal and external corner pieces and 400mm square templates which is easily installed and joined using your choice of Mapei flexible waterproofing membrane. What could be easier?
