Mapei, a global leader in cement additives and concrete additives, announces a ground-breaking step towards a greener future with the establishment of a research center for sustainable concrete technology in Nord-Odal, Norway. The project, which has secured support of NOK 26.4 million from Innovation Norway, aims to contribute to a reduction of more than 450,000 tonnes of CO2 - equivalent to 7.5% of the Norwegian mainland industry's imposed emission cuts by 2030.
Official launch with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre
Mapei is pleased to announce that Norway's Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, will be present during the official launch of the research center on 14 November. The launch of the research center not only marks a milestone for Mapei, but is also for national investment in innovation and sustainability.
The launch will take place at the Mapei head office for the Nordics and the Baltics, in Nord-Odal, Norway at 1230 on 14.11.23. There will be an opportunity for a 1-1 dialogue with Støre in connection with the launch.
International scalability and government support
Mapei's ambition for this project extends far beyond national borders. The technology developed at the new laboratory in Nord-Odal will eventually be rolled out internationally, and the company's head office in Milan has decided to use significant resources in this innovative project.
Substantial contribution to national and international climate goals
Mapei's investment not only represents a significant technological advance, but also represents a necessary contribution to achieving national and international climate goals. With concrete production alone responsible for 7-9% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, the research center will be a key player in reducing this burden.
R&D investment of 127 million for future solutions
Through a total investment of 127 million, Mapei will establish a research center that is not just a laboratory, but the heart of sustainable concrete innovation - both nationally and internationally. The center will act as Mapei's international hub for the development of circular and sustainable solutions.
Co-creation for a sustainable future
Mapei believes in co-creation and invites researchers and companies from the entire value chain to participate in this ground-breaking project. The research center will be an arena for collaboration, where innovative ideas and solutions can thrive and contribute to a sustainable future. Mapei already collaborates with all the biggest players in the value chain and key R&D environments such as SINTEF and NTNU. In the work to realize this project, Mapei has also worked closely with Klosser Innovation in Kongsvinger.
Mapei's venture is not just a technological advance; it is a promise of responsible stewardship of our planet. We look forward to a future where sustainable concrete is not just a vision, but a reality.
