MAPEI in Norway: We want to win as a team both as a company and in cooperation with the society around us

Winning as a team, and constantly wanting to improve, is an important part of our culture. We must be an active partner in developing a good society around us.

Mapei is therefore an active supporter of both sport, culture and education and supports both children and young people, men and women, broad and top.

Mapei is the main sponsor for Kongsvinger IL Toppfotball.

MAPEI's collaboration with Kongsvinger IL

Football is strong, and has long traditions in Kongsvinger both as a top sport through Kongsvinger IL Topfotball and Kongsvinger's women's team, and as a grassroots sport for both girls and boys in the local community.

Our biggest commitment is our collaboration with Kongsvinger football. We are both a general partner for Kongsvinger Toppfotball and a sponsor for KIL 2nd division women. MAPEI Norge has been a sponsor of KIL since 2003, and since 2017 we have been the club's general partner. The team will play in 2024 in the OBOS league (1st division).

Top football for both men and women creates heroes and role models for children and young people, and the club is the beacon in local sports. Our aim is to contribute to the development of the club. We have therefore established a close collaboration between KIL and MAPEI's international research centers for sport in Milan: MAPEI SPORT. This is a sports center at an international top level that has cooperation with national teams, teams and athletes in both football, cycling and other sports.

We have also established contacts with the Mapei group's top football investment with the club Sassuolo, which for many years has played in Italy's top division, Serie A.

Kongsvinger IL – The pride of the Kongsvinger region

Kongsvinger IL is a very traditional club that was established in 1892.

In 1953, the club was named Kongsvinger Idrettslag as we know it today. In 1982, KIL moved up to the top division and stayed there for 17 consecutive years. During this period, the club really managed to put itself on the map. In 1993, KIL played in the UEFA Cup, and in the 2nd round they drew 1 - 1 against a star-studded Juventus team at Ullevaal. The second leg in Turin ended 2-0 to Juventus, after a controversial cancellation of a Kil goal. Kongsvinger had shown that a team of local boys from a small town in Norway could compete against one of Europe's best teams. Juventus had national team players from Brazil, Germany and Italy. At Kongsvinger, most of the players had jobs alongside football.

Kongsvinger can look back on silver in 1982 and two bronze medals in 1986 and 1987. They reached the semi-finals of the Norwegian Championship four times and played in the cup final in 2016. In the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons, the club has fought for promotion back to the elite series.

The club's "Hel Ved" culture is strongly supported by hard work and volunteering. Kongsvinger's own street team and good cooperation with the other football clubs in the region.

U.S. Sassuolo Calcio

Our main investment in sport is U.S. Sassuolo Calcio football club men's and women's football teams at all levels.

Initially envisaged as a way of supporting a ceramics district with which we are closely connected, our involvement in U.S. Sassuolo Calcio has grown deeper over the years since we share numerous important values and ideals: hard work, teamwork and, last but not least, the determination to take on new challenges.

Owned by Mapei since 2003, the men's first team has been promoted from Serie C2 to Serie A since we have been involved. It has now been playing in Italy’s top division for over ten years and even qualified for the Europa League in 2016.

In 2019 the Generazione S project was launched: a social responsibility project run by U.S. Sassuolo Calcio focused on young players, whose football careers and personal lives are developed with the aim of spreading the game of football as a tool for training, education and aggregation..

Mapei Sport Research Center

Research also plays a key role for us in the field of sport. That is why we set up Mapei Sport in 1996, a service centre created to support the riders in the Mapei professional cycling team based on scientific rationality and a proper approach to ethics in sport.

The Research Center is now a technical-scientific facility of the highest order providing assistance to athletes of all levels, not only professionals but also amateurs, so they can improve their performance through training programmes and multi-sector support.

The athletes carefully monitored by the Research Center include the teams and athletes sponsored by Mapei.
