Mapei Malaysia has installed a 296 kWp photovoltaic system in its Nilai manufacturing plant to reduce the environmental impact of its production processes. This investment is part of the MAPEI Group’s strategy to optimize energy consumption and promote clean energy sources, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of its local operations worldwide. This new system will save the plant 384,600 kWh annually, cutting CO2 emissions by 292 tons, equivalent to a 2,413 km car journey or to the planting of 7,292 trees!
It will also reduce Mapei Malaysia's reliance on the local electricity grid by 28.2%.
MAPEI Malaysia's move to integrate clean energy into its operations is further proof of its commitment to sustainability. In addition, the company has devoted special attention to activities which encourage community participation in sustainability projects. These included various initiatives like up-cycling unused mortar into mini pots and donating these and other materials to a children autistics centre to decorate and sell for fund-raising. We celebrate Earth Day by giving away tree saplings to customers to encourage re-planting and CO2 reduction. In recent years, with employee engagement, the company has also planted trees in the grounds surrounding the manufacturing plant in Nilai. Staff members were also given saplings and urged to do the same in their own gardens.
Through Mapei’s digital publications on sustainability and the activities mentioned above, we hope to increase awareness on the importance of environmental sustainability not only among our employees but also among various parties within the community.
