Innovative solutions: Mapei's contribution to Slovenian building and renovation projects

Viaducts, sports pitches, shopping centres and wellness areas: Mapei d.o.o. took part in the construction and renovation of various structures across the country

Mapei d.o.o. has contributed to various construction and renovation projects across Slovenia: wellness centers, viaducts, shopping centers, residential complexes, and recreational parks. Wellness centre - Slovenian National Football Association (Brdo)

The Slovenian Football Association (NZS) promotes football around the country and, near to its headquarters, there are several pitches, multi-functional areas, spectator stands and, since March 2024, a wellbeing centre available. In the swimming pools in the centre, the screeds for the surface of the bottom of the pools were created using TOPCEM hydraulic binder. The substrates were levelled off with PLANITOP FAST 330 mortar and then waterproofed with MAPELASTIC membrane reinforced with MAPENET 150 glass fibre mesh. Mosaic tiles were installed on the floors and walls of the bathrooms and in the swimming pools with ADESILEX P10 adhesive mixed with ISOLASTIC latex. KERAPOXY DESIGN, an epoxy grout particularly suitable against aggressive agents typically found in swimming pools, was chosen to grout the joints. All the expansion joints were sealed with MAPESIL AC. The rubber floors in the centre were bonded with ADESILEX G19 adhesive.

Ravbarkomanda Viaduct (Postojna)

The Ravbarkomanda viaduct, built in 1972, is located along the Ljubljana-Koper motorway. Work was carried out recently to strengthen and extend the structure. MAPEROD C 150 pultruded carbon fibre rods were applied on the upper section of the reinforced concrete slab using ADESILEX PG1 epoxy adhesive to guarantee they had sufficient load-bearing capacity. MAPEFER 1K (now available as MAPEFER 1K ZERO* on the international market) anti-corrosion mortar was applied to protect the steel reinforcement rods in the pilllars. MAPEGROUT EASY FLOW GF fibre-reinforced thixotropic mortar was used to reintegrate the areas from where deteriorated concrete had been removed. The mortar was admixed with MAPECURE SRA, a curing admixture reducing hydraulic shrinkage and the formation of micro-cracks. A coating cycle from the ELASTOCOLOR range was applied to paint and protect the surfaces of the pillars.

Spar shopping centres - Celje and Bovec

Mapei d.o.o. took part in the redevelopment of two outlets belonging to the food distribution giant Spar, one in Celje, in the eastern part of the country, and the other in Bovec, in the western part of the country. New ceramic flooring was installed over the existing one after repairing the cracks with EPORIP epoxy resin and levelling off the surfaces with PLANITOP FAST 330 fibre-reinforced cementitious mortar, which hardens quickly without shrinking or forming cracks. The ceramic flooring was bonded with KERAFLEX EASY S1 using the double-buttering technique. The joints were grouted with ULTRACOLOR PLUS* water-repellent and mould-resistant cementitious mortar. MAPESIL AC, a highly elastic, pure acetic sealant, was then used to seal the expansion joints.

Parking in a residential complex in Ljubljana

A new residential complex stands in the historic Šumi district, offering residents of Ljubljana elegance, comfort and sustainability. The building, which also houses a hotel from the Barcelo chain, comprises 96 flats and, on the ground floor, commercial and catering activities house a car park with 337 parking spaces. The parking floor had to guarantee high standards of durability, aesthetic impact and functionality. For this reason, MAPEFLOOR PARKING SYSTEM ID, a multilayer polyurethane system was chosen, which made it possible to create anti-slip surfaces with good crack-bridging performance, resistant to wear caused by intense wheeled vehicle traffic, mechanical stress and chemical aggression.

Jojo recreation park (Kranj)

Thanks also to the help of Josip Ilicic, who played for the Atalanta football team in Italy, a recreation park with football pitches and basketball courts has been recently renovated. The application cycle for the renovation work commenced with the application of MAPECOAT TNS WHITE BASE COAT, an acrylic resin basecoat to level off the surfaces of the substrates and to help the next layers adhere more firmly. Once it was dry, two coats of MAPECOAT TNS FINISH 3 acrylic resin-based coating in two shades of blue were applied, one shade for the actual playing area and the other shade to mark out the free-throw lane and the center circle. Two layers of MAPECOAT TNS COLOR coating were then applied for the final finish. The playing lines were marked out using white MAPECOAT TNS LINE for the basketball court and the same product, in yellow, for the football pitch.
