A winning tactic, even off the field
The quality and durability of Mapei systems in an overview of football stadiums around the world
Mapei innovative and durable systems have been used in football stadiums worldwide, from Italy to Kenya, Argentina, and Austria. These solutions help to create high-performance surfaces with sustainable materials and ensure rapid installation across a range of application areas — stands, synthetic grass pitches, ceramic coverings, and multi-sport areas. These projects showcase Mapei’s commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability in modern stadium construction.
DEI MARMI MUNICIPAL STADIUM, CARRARA (ITALY)
Built in 1955, today the stadium is the home ground of Carrarese, a team playing in the Italian Serie B Championship. With an all-seater capacity of 4,194, in 2023 the spectator stands underwent renovation work. After preparing the surfaces of the stands with Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW solvent-free epoxy primer and adhesion promoter, Mapecoat TNS Fast acrylic resin-based, rapid film-forming, coloured coating was applied to protect them against heavy footfall and the action of atmospheric agents, while providing a slip-resistant, durable finish.

KASARANI STADIUM, NAIROBI (KENYA)
This multi-purpose stadium lately underwent extensive renovation work to host the AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) in 2027. Mapei took part in the upgrading works that involved the spectator stands. Where required, the concrete substrates were repaired with Adesilex PG2 two-component epoxy adhesive. The concrete surfaces were then treated with Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW epoxy primer before being protected with Mapecoat TNS Extreme system, a two-component epoxy-acrylic system characterised by its excellent resistance to wear.
The Mapei products used for this project support Kenya’s initiatives to safeguard the environment. Mapecoat TNS Extreme is a water-based, low-emission solution that minimizes environmental impact while ensuring durability. Its approval for use in other stadiums across Kenya highlights its compliance with strict environmental and safety standards.

MIRAMARE MUNICIPAL STADIUM, MANFREDONIA (ITALY)
The stadium was built in 1931 and in 2001 hosted the first ever game played on a synthetic grass pitch in Italy. And it was for that very pitch that Mapei recently made its contribution.
Ultrabond Turf PU 2K solvent and water-free, two-component polyurethane adhesive was used to bond jointing strips between the rolls of synthetic grass. Once it hardens, Ultrabond Turf PU 2K forms a tough film and creates a strong bond with any type of substrate.

CLUB ATLÉTICO LANÚS ARENA, LANÚS (ARGENTINA)
Lanús is a multi-sports club that is best known for its football section, with the first team playing in the topflight of the Argentine championship. In 2022 Mapei Argentina, Main Sponsor of the Club, supplied its products for the sports surfaces in the open-air multi-sports area and the covered spectator stands in the Lanús-Néstor Díaz Pérez Stadium, also known as La Fortaleza (the fortress).
The substrates were prepared by applying Mapecoat TNS Primer EPW. The next step was to apply Mapecoat TNS Fast acrylic resin-based coloured coating which is ideal to colour and protect surfaces exposed to high footfall while ensuring a highly non-slip finish.

RAIFFEISEN ARENA, LINZ (AUSTRIA)
Officially inaugurated in February 2023, this all-seater stadium with a capacity of more than 19,000 is where LASK Linz pay their home games. Construction started in 2021, with Mapei taking part in the installation of ceramic tiles on a total of 6,000 m2 of surfaces in several areas: stairways, bars, restaurant, changing rooms and bathrooms. The substrates in the damp areas were initially waterproofed with Mapelastic Turbo and Mapegum WPS waterproofing mortars. The tiles were than bonded and grouted in just two months using high performance adhesives such as Keraflex Maxi S1 (now available as Keraflex Maxi S1 Zero*), Keraquick Maxi S1 and Ultralite S1**. The Ultratop Loft system was used to create 250 m2 of cementitious flooring in the Lask Fanshop store next to the Arena.
