Mapei's support for the world of scientific research continues, through its collaboration with the AIRC Foundation, the leading non-profit organisation for the funding of independent cancer research in Italy. The company has chosen to support a research project My First AIRC Grant (MFAG) named after Giorgio and Adriana Squinzi.
My First AIRC Grant is a concrete tool to support young scientists, offering them the opportunity to conduct their research work in an Italian facility of excellence and to become progressively autonomous and independent.
The winner of the grant is Dr Francesco Spallotta, who will thus be able to carry out a two-year research project entitled 'Metabolic regulation of the DNA demethylation enzymatic machinery in pancreatic cancer' at the 'Charles Darwin' Department of Biology and Biotechnology of the Sapienza University of Rome, a laboratory affiliated with the Pasteur Institute Italy - Cenci Bolognetti Foundation.
The winning projects of a My First AIRC Grant are selected through an evaluation process based on the international peer review method for relevance to cancer, innovativeness and feasibility. The MFAG covers research costs, the salary of the grant holders and the salary of two staff members dedicated to the projects.
Mapei is proud to continue to bring its concrete contribution to the world of research, flanking and supporting realities such as AIRC, universities and research bodies. In 2022, support for AIRC had led the company to set up, in collaboration with the Foundation, a three-year scholarship named after Giorgio and Adriana Squinzi to train a young researcher and support a project in the field of oncological research.
