Usage of Primer M

Primer M is used to improve the bonding of polyurethane sealants like Mapeflex PU45, Mapeflex PU40, Mapeflex PU50 SL, and adhesives like Ultrabond P990 1K and Mapegum PU 1K to non-absorbent surfaces like metals (iron, steel, aluminium, copper, zinc-plated sheets), ceramic, glass, and painted sheets, as well as absorbent surfaces like concrete.

Primer M should also be used for joints that are exposed to severe mechanical stress after they have been sealed and are in frequent contact with liquids for long periods of time.

Primer M can also be used after the maximum covering time to promote adhesion on membranes from the Purtop line around joints that have been formed in the membrane.

Technical Characteristics

Primer M is a ready-to-use, one-component primer that is solvent-free. It is made out of polyurethane resins that cure quickly when exposed to moisture in the air. Primer M is based on a formula created and tested in MAPEI's own research labs. Recommendations for usage

• If the temperature is below +5°C or over +35°C, Primer M should not be used.
• Primer M should not be used on wet or damp surfaces.
• Primer M should not be used as a primer for plastics.
• Primer M should not come into touch with alcohol or solvents containing alcohol, since this could affect the product's curing.
• A small amount of product should be applied to the surface.
• When Primer M dries, it turns yellow; make sure it doesn't go on any surfaces near the treated areas.
• Because Primer M cures quickly in the presence of humidity, we recommend sealing the bottle immediately after use to preserve any remaining product. Primer M, if properly preserved, can be used again at a later period.

Application Procedure

While Mapei as one of the chemical companies ensures the products are of optimum quality the process of its application has great impact. Thus, the preparation of the substrate should be scrutinized process. The surfaces to be treated must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, grease, and wax.

Further the application of the product also has certain details which should be taken into consideration. Primer M is applied in a thin, even coat with a brush or roller. Use only a small amount of the product. When roughly 40 minutes at +23°C and 50% R.H., any further sealer or adhesive must be applied only after the primer is no longer sticky to the touch.

Safety instructions for preparation and application

The eyes, skin, and respiratory system are all irritated by Primer M. It can also be dangerous if breathed, and if used for lengthy periods of time, it can cause irreversible damage. If inhaled or comes into touch with the skin, it may cause sensitization in persons who are sensitive to isocyanates.
