Application	Intervention at the Fanzara Bridge The structure of the platform supporting the CV-194 road, on the Fanzara - Castillo de Villamalefa section, at km 1+250, presents a significant technical challenge, not only because of its location but also because of its cultural and functional nature. It is a bridge, located over the river Mijares, in the municipality of Fanzara (Castellón), nestled in an imposing natural landscape, in one of its two directions - a straight section, it has very good visibility, while in the other direction - a curved section, visibility is reduced, which requires special attention in its design and conservation. The bridge is supported by three reinforced concrete arches - two of which are semi-circular with a lightened tympanum and a 32-meter span between their springers - built with a metal self-supporting system that incorporates angular profiles to guarantee the geometry and reinforcement of the structure. The ribbed reinforced concrete slab forms the deck, with longitudinal ribs that provide greater support. First Phase: Cleaning by Sandblasting The process begins with a thorough cleaning of the surfaces affected by corrosion and degradation of the reinforcement. Using sandblasting, the residues are removed and the reinforcement and concrete are left in perfect condition for repair. This step is essential to ensure that the subsequent layers adhere well, providing a solid base for the restoration. Second Phase: Passivation of the Reinforcement In this phase, the product Mapefer 1K was applied, a cementitious mortar specified for the passivation of steel reinforcement. Its formula inhibits the corrosion process, protecting the structure from the effects of water and CO2 that can cause carbonation. After passivation, the degraded concrete was repaired using Mapegrout T40 SR, a technical, fibre-reinforced mortar ideal for the recovery of lost concrete sections. This high-strength, durable product is perfect for restoring the integrity of surfaces exposed to extreme conditions. Third Phase: Spraying of Mapelastic Smart To guarantee the long-term waterproofing and protection of the bridge, the liquid membrane Mapelastic Smart was applied. This high-performance waterproofing mortar, formulated with cement additives, provides excellent protection against water infiltration and carbonation. The spray application ensures uniform coverage, forming a robust and flexible barrier that guarantees continuous protection to the structure. The intervention has not only restored the physical integrity of the bridge, but has also prolonged its longevity and improved its resistance to the passage of time and the effects of environmental phenomena.
