A Mapei resilient flooring system has been used to complete an extensive project at The Cocoa Works in York. Installed by Titan Flooring, the project spanned apartment living rooms, bedrooms and corridors throughout the luxury redevelopment, on the site of the former iconic Rowntree Factory. The project was completed by Henry Boot Construction for Latimer – the development arm of Clarion Housing Group.
Originally dating back to the 1890s, the Rowntree Factory is located on an eight-hectare site of historical significance. Derelict for over a decade, the building has been sensitively restored, with the new characterful-contemporary design embracing original features throughout. Designed by Weedon Architects, the building includes 279 luxury one, two and three-bed apartments surrounded by landscaped gardens and external spaces.
Floor preparation works were completed throughout the historic site using two Mapei products. They included ECO Prim T Plus universal acrylic primer and Ultraplan Renovation Screed 3240 – a fibre-reinforced smoothing compound. Both the primer and screed feature very low VOC EMICODE: EC1 Plus formulations.
The floor installation - which included Karndean Designflooring Knight Tile LVT, Interface Contemplation carpet tiles and The Unnatural Flooring Co carpet and underlay - was completed with three Mapei adhesives. Ultrabond ECO TX3 wet-grab adhesive was used to install bedroom carpets and Ultrabond ECO Tack TX+ acrylic-adhesive carpet tile tackifier was used to install carpet tiles throughout corridors. The third adhesive, Ultrabond ECO VS90 Plus wet-bed dispersion
adhesive, was used to install LVT throughout living areas. All three adhesives also feature very low VOC EMICODE: EC1 Plus formulations.
