A Mapei flooring system was used to prepare subfloors throughout New Victoria – a new residential community adjacent to Manchester Victoria train station. Spanning two 20 and 25-storey buildings, the project included 520 new homes and was delivered by VINCI Building in partnership with Muse and Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), alongside Manchester City Council and Homes England.
During the preparation of subfloors, installed by Active Flooring for VINCI Building, three Mapei products were used ahead of the floor installation. They included Mapeproof One Coat - a two-component, single coat damp proof membrane and Eco Prim T Plus universal acrylic primer. The surface was levelled with Latexplan Trade – a protein-free, low odour levelling and smoothing compound with high compressive strength. Both the primer and Latexplan Trade feature a very low VOC EMICODE: ECI Plus formulation, for a safe, sustainable installation.
Sited on repurposed land, the award-winning scheme has rejuvenated the inner-city area. Alongside ground floors shops and workspaces, the vibrant residential community features an abundance of amenities including a gym, shared co-working space, games room, cinema room, a shared kitchen and entertainment space, café and a library/music space. These carefully curated spaces combine preloved, restored and modern aspects, with a nod to the area’s Victorian heritage. Various initiatives have been harnessed to promote sustainability further, including electric vehicle chargers, cycle racks, charity partnerships and bin chutes for efficient recycling.
