Levelling products and adhesives from Mapei have been used to complete a resilient floor installation at Royal Gwent Hospital’s new Endoscopy Unit. The installation, by M2 Flooring Solutions, spanned 3,000 sq m and featured Polyflor sheet vinyl. The new purpose-built facility was designed by architects from BDP and delivered by contractor, Lancer Scott.
Located within a former birthing unit, the new Endoscopy Unit will provide an expanded range of services to patients in the Gwent area using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. The unit includes four operating theatres, a range of treatment rooms, a spacious recovery area and a dedicated space for relatives. Open seven days a week, it will significantly improve quality, safety and patient experience by doubling its capacity.
Two Mapei smoothing compounds were used to prepare subfloors throughout the unit. They included two-part rapid setting and drying Latexplan Trade Fast and fibre-reinforced smoothing compound, Ultraplan Renovation Screed 3240, which has an EMICODE: EC1 Plus formulation, with very low VOCs
The Polyflor sheet vinyl was installed with two solvent-free adhesives: Ultrabond Eco 380 – a non- flammable pressure sensitive adhesive with strong and fast initial tack and long open time and Ultrabond Eco VS90 Plus - a high temperature universal adhesive, also featuring an EMICODE: EC1 Plus (very low VOC) formulation.
