Active Flooring has completed an extensive floor installation, using a Mapei system, at The Junction in Monkbridge, Leeds. The £106m scheme in the city centre includes 665 new homes, retail and hospitality businesses. The installation of Forbo LVT and carpet tiles spanned communal corridors, apartment living spaces and bathrooms. The development was delivered by Galliford Try for City Developments Ltd.
Credited as one of the most significant build-to-rent developments ever seen in the city of Leeds, the scheme spans five blocks and is located on the site of the former Monkbridge steel works site, close to the city’s main railway station. Alongside the apartments, communal areas include private dining rooms, resident lounges, pocket parks and an outdoor events space. As part of the redevelopment of the brownfield site, 20 arches from the adjacent Grade-II listed Victorian viaduct have also been converted to provide retail and hospitality space.
During the floor preparation phase, three Mapei products were used to prepare subfloors. They included Mapei Latexplan Trade levelling and smoothing compound, Mapeproof One Coat single coat surface damp proof membrane to control residual and constructional moisture and Eco Prim T Plus universal acrylic primer.
The floor specification included Forbo Tessera Inline carpet tiles in communal corridors, Forbo Allura Decibel LVT in living spaces and Forbo Novilon Viva vinyl flooring in bathrooms. Carpet tiles were installed using Ultrabond Eco Tack TX+ - a solvent-free, non-staining acrylic-adhesive carpet tile tackifier in water dispersion. All LVT was installed with Ultrabond Eco V4 Evolution all-in-one universal adhesive and Ultrabond Eco TX3 wet grab adhesive. Mapei’s levelling compound, primer and adhesives each feature an EMICODE: EC1 Plus formulation, with very low VOC’s, promoting a safe application.
