Mapei contributes to reduced eco-impact concrete with Cube system

July 15, 2024

Mapei has unveiled its new Cube System – a portfolio of solutions for low carbon concrete production. Launched at the opening of its new Admixtures Plant in Speke, near Liverpool, Cube System contributes to a reduction in the environmental impact of concrete production by enhancing the performance of binder or supplementary binder, allowing producers to maintain concrete design criteria with minimal impact on cost to produce.

To enhance the strength of the new cements, Mapecube technologies include a series of strength enhancers. The formulations feature nano-composite silicate hydrates which produce hydration reactions more rapidly and diffusely in cement paste. The combination of the silicate hydrates - with retarding accelerators which produce a more powerful pozzolanic reaction – and alkaline activation materials enable faster development of mechanical strength after both short and long curing cycles. The product range includes Mapecube 1 for short curing cycles, Mapecube 2 for cements with limestone, Mapecube 3 for cements with blast furnace slag, Mapecube 4 for cements with fly ash, and Mapecube 60, Mapecube 60 W and Mapecube 65 for all cements and SCM’s.

Dynamon CUBE superplasticizers are designed to face the challenges of sustainable concrete, featuring polymers that work with all cement and secondary cement types. The Dynamon CUBE range currently includes three superplasticizers: Dynamon Cube 800 which has a neutral-effect on setting time; Dynamon Cube 805 which extends and maintains workability for longer periods and Dynamon Cube 807 for extended timeframes.

In keeping with its focus on sustainability, Mapei also introduced the RE-CON range of superplasticisers - a new generation of admixtures for use with recycled aggregates and difficult, clay containing or manufactured sands.

Special absorption inhibitors (RE-CON AGG Technology) are integrated into formulations for use with recycled aggregates and specific gradual-release polymers maintain workability and rheology for extended periods of time, whilst maintain set times.

“The CUBE and RE-CON product lines help our customers overcome some of the challenges our industry faces today, providing sustainable and economical solutions in the production of reduced carbon concrete and management of returned concrete. These two product lines are testament to Mapei’s commitment to R&D,” explained Mapei’s Cameron Bellman, Corporate Product Line Director, Concrete Admixtures,
