Mapei was recently proud to support Butterfly Effect Wellbeing in a BBC One DIY SOS: The Big Build’ transformation. In the Eastenders Special, presenter, Nick Knowles and his team were assisted by cast members in a life-changing build focused on improving the community’s mental health and wellbeing in Harlow. Mapei donated products used to transform a disused former caretaker’s bungalow into a new mental health and wellbeing hub.
Butterfly Effect Wellbeing is a Community Interest Company. It was founded by Angela Hannibal in memory of her Mum, Chris, who she lost to suicide. Angela runs the group with fellow director, Dawn, who also lost her brother to suicide. The company previously operated from a portacabin, running a range of groups and workshops designed to bring people together and improve mental health. The transformation of the bungalow – provided by the local council - will enable them to offer more services to vulnerable people, currently on long waiting lists for support.
With the help of volunteer trades and donations, DIY SOS: The Big Build transformed the space into a warm and welcoming hub, where everyone in the local community can go for help, support and company. As part of the project, Mapei supplied Kerapoxy Easy Design – a very low VOC epoxy grout - which was used to finish the tile installation throughout the bungalow.
