Mapei makes a grand entrance at Village Hotel

Mapei has provided a fast-track repair and resurface solution for the main entrance steps at the Village Hotel, Warrington.  The renovation project - completed by SCFR Ltd for main contractor, Derek De’Ath Ltd – included a complete renovation of the concrete steps and application of a UV-resistant and slip-resistant Mapei coating system, designed for heavy pedestrian traffic.

Located close to Warrington town centre in Cheshire, the Village Hotel is approach via a wide concrete stepped entrance.  Localised repairs had been carried out historically to the concrete steps and the surface required complete renovation. Mapei attended the site throughout the project, to provide support on each phase of works, including substrate preparation, repair and resurfacing, over four days, and installation of the primer and protective coating, completed in a single day.

Following removal of deteriorated concrete, steel reinforcement rods were cleaned and Mapefer 1K Zero - a carbon neutral anti-corrosion cementitious mortar was applied.  This was followed by application of rapid setting Planitop Smooth and Repair R4 Zero - a carbon neutral shrinkage compensated, thixotropic fibre-reinforced cementitious mortar – used to reinstate the voids and resurface the steps.  Solvent-free epoxy adhesive, Eporip and Mapeflex MS 45 – a universal paintable elastic sealant and adhesive compatible with damp substrates - were then applied to seal and bond the surface. The steps were then primed with Triblock P – a moisture compatible epoxy-cement based special primer – and finished with two coats of slip-resistant Mapecoat TNS Race Track.  A fast-track water-based protective coating developed for high footfall environments – as well as racing circuits - Mapecoat TNS Race Track is an acrylic waterborne, rapid film-forming coloured coating, textured with selected fillers and offered in a limitless colour range.  Using Mapei’s Colormatch swatch, a buff-coloured shade was specified for the Village Hotel, to complement the original stone pillars and exposed brickwork.
