A range of Mapei systems has been used to complete a luxurious home pool and jacuzzi complex at a property in Chester-Le-Street. The project was completed by pool installer, Whitewater Pools and tiling contractor, Clelland Tiling Ltd.
Situated within the extensive grounds of the private property in Chester-Le-Street, the home spa complex is housed within a newly constructed single storey building. The contemporary-style construction features a pitched roof with exposed timber beams and full length glazing which floods the space with light. The 12m x 5m pool and separate circular jacuzzi feature a striking tile finish, including glass mosaics, a 3D split face mosaic wall tile finish, a large format porcelain tile pool surround and a matching tile finish, cut to suit, on wall supports.
Mapei systems were used to waterproof all areas throughout the building, including the adjoining shower and changing area, and to install all tiled surfaces. The specification included: Mapelastic Smart – a highly flexible, cementitious waterproof membrane; Mapenet 150 alkali-resistant glass fibre reinforcing mesh; Mapeguard WP 200 alkali-resistant waterproofing and anti-fracture membrane and Mapelastic AquaDefense – a ready to use, flexible, ultra-rapid drying waterproofing membrane. Two cement-based adhesives were used to fix the wall and floor tiles including Keraquick XL Fibrelite lightweight, fibre-reinforced and rapid-setting adhesive and Keraflex Maxi S1 – a high-performance, deformable cementitious standard set adhesive, with benefits including no vertical slip, extended open time and very low VOC. The installation was completed with Kerapoxy two-component, acid resistant epoxy grout.
