Mapei products have been specified as part of a brand new development project in East Ham, located in the Newham district of East London. Kempton Mews is a stunning collection of apartments, and each bathroom in the 37 apartments now boasts high quality in both design and performance.
In Mapei’s first development with contractor Kuropatwa, the project proved to be plain sailing, taking just 5 months to complete all bathrooms. Mosa Terra Maestricht tiles (300mm x 600mm) in mid grey were installed by Stonechat Tiling.
The walls were initially primed with Mapei’s Primer G to ensure maximum adhesion for the installation of the tiles. This synthetic, resin-based primer with very low emission level of VOC is ideal for providing uniform absorption in cementitious or gypsum surfaces.
Once primed, Mapei Keraflex Maxi S1 adhesive was applied at an approximate thickness of 11mm, with the adhesive being applied to the rear of the tile and the substrate. The flexible S1 adhesive boasts high performance and no vertical slip, making it ideal for use on walls even with large format tiles. Keraflex Maxi
S1 hardens with minimal shrinkage, even when applied very thickly; this vital quality ensures stress on the tile is minimised, thus reducing the possibility of cracks and voids.
Speaking of the project, fitter Luke Jarvis said, “In my 12 years of tiling, I’ve found that Keraflex Maxi S1 is the most consistent adhesive on the market. It’s faultless.
“Mapei products are a pleasure to work with, and they give me the peace of mind that there will be no comebacks.”
When fitted, Mapei Ultracolor Plus in 112 Medium Grey was used to grout the tiles to ensure a consistent and uniform finish. The quick-setting, polymer-modified mortar has water-repellent DropEffect® and mouldresistant BioBlock® technologies, making it ideal for use in bathrooms and other areas subjected to water droplets. Mapesil AC silicone was used to match the grout colour, providing a sleek and contemporary finish to each bathroom.
