Mapei announces launch of Bitumen Flat Roofing Association (BFRA)

March 18, 2025

Mapei is delighted to announce that it is a proud founding member of the new Bitumen Flat Roofing Association (BFRA). Uniting the industry’s manufacturers and suppliers, the BFRA will be a unified voice for the sector, championing professional excellence, technical competence and shaping the industry’s future through lasting collaborative partnerships.

Recognising a significant opportunity to advance collaboration, improve stakeholder competency and promote best practice, 14 leading manufacturers and suppliers – including Mapei – came together earlier this year to establish the BFRA. The association will support the interests of all those involved in the manufacture, design, specification, supply and installation of bitumen flat roofing systems.

“We’re incredibly excited to be part of the newly formed BFRA and to support its mission to unite experts from across the bitumen flat roofing sector through a thriving trade association,” commented Alex Bloor, Category Manager Polyglass/Mapei.

Despite being in its infancy, the association already represents a large proportion of the UK bitumen flat roofing manufacturer and supplier sector and it is well positioned to combat industry challenges and lead the sector towards a sustainable and profitable future. It has already established a technical working group to tackle the critical issues and challenges impacting the industry, such as British Standard updates to BS 8217 and BS 8747, in addition to the development of a comprehensive bitumen flat roofing technical guide.
