Mapei has introduced a large-format tile Installation training course, held at Mapei Academy, Halesowen in the West Midlands. Running every quarter throughout the year, the course focuses on the versatility of large format tile designs and spans sourcing, cutting and scoring methods to tile fixing using Mapei’s Ultralite adhesive range and grouts.  It also includes recommended cleaning and maintenance regimes, with demonstrations using Mapei’s UltraCare products. The next large-format tile course takes place on Wednesday 11 December.

To create a suitable environment to deliver the course, Mapei invested in significant improvements to the layout of facilities within its Training Academy. This included the construction of a purpose-built multi-room which encompasses a window recess, wall pipe work and a floor drain to create a mock-up bathroom.

A purpose-built training facility, Mapei Academy is a central hub for all Mapei-wide programmes of practical and theoretical training. It provides ongoing support for customers and construction professionals covering Mapei’s many product lines and specialisms. Facilities include a 31-seater ‘stadium’ auditorium for presentations and demonstrations, with dedicated bays available for a hands-on experience of Mapei wall and floor systems, including installing ceramic and stone finishes, resilient and wood flooring, industrial flooring (resin, Ultratop and Ultratop Loft), structural waterproofing, swimming pool construction, concrete repair, EWI, render and coatings. All training is provided free of charge and is hosted by experienced trainers and technical personnel from Mapei’s UK team - including Neal Perryman, Adrian Jones, Adam Newton-Smith, Sean Cassidy, Luke Rowberry and Andrew Bradley – and headed up by Senior Training Manager, Jez Mann. 

In addition to Mapei’s training programme, the facilities, including meeting rooms, are also available to distributors, retailers, contractors, designers and engineers, and training can be tailored to specific needs. As well as in-person training, Mapei Academy also offers a series of free online ‘bitesize’ courses through webinars, and RIBA CPD Network Providers and Construction CPD Certification accredited CPD’s; sessions are offered free of charge and can be hosted at customer’s own premises or are available to book at Mapei World London City Specification Centre in Clerkenwell, London.
