Mapei's long-standing partnership with the UCI dates back to 2008, with its passion for the sport beginning with Rodolfo Squinzi - Mapei’s founder and former elite cyclist.  This passion continued with Rodolfo’s son, Giorgio Squinzi, who passed away in 2019, and today with his grandchildren, Marco and Veronica Squinzi. Mapei to be one of the Official Partners of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and across Scotland.

February 16, 2022

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and Mapei are delighted to announce that Mapei will be one of the Official Partners of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships.
The inaugural edition of the event, which will be held every four years, is set to take place in Glasgow and across Scotland (Great Britain) from 3 to 13 August 2023. Bringing together 13 UCI World Championships for cycling’s different disciplines, the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will be one of the biggest moments in the history of the sport. It is expected to welcome more than 8,000 amateur and elite cyclists from at least 120 countries and crown over 190 UCI World Champions. More than one million spectators are awaited, with a global TV audience in excess of one billion expected to make it one of the Top 10 watched sporting events on the planet.

Mapei's long-standing partnership with the UCI began in 2008 at the UCI Road World Championships in Varese (Italy) and will continue until 2024. The 2022 UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong (Australia) will mark the 14th anniversary of this collaboration. In this regard, Mapei, as Main Partner, benefits from significant visibility, particularly along the routes and in cities, on support vehicles and on digital platforms.
Mapei’s close relationship with cycling began with Rodolfo Squinzi, founder of the Italian group and former elite cyclist. It continued with his son Giorgio Squinzi, who died in 2019, and today with the latter's children, Marco and Veronica Squinzi. During the 90s, the company sponsored one of the first division UCI teams, which would go on to win more than 650 professional races, including four UCI Road World Championships.
The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will stand out for their contribution to sustainability, the involvement of the public in the event, the development of active mobility, innovation, as well as health and well-being.

UCI President David Lappartient said: “I am delighted that our Official Partner Mapei has joined the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. The Italian company was already intrinsic to the UCI Road World Championships, our flagship annual event, and I am thrilled it is now also supporting the biggest cycling event ever organised.”

Mapei CEO Veronica Squinzi said: “As we continue our long and successful partnership with the UCI, we wanted to confirm our support for this historic edition of the UCI Cycling World Championships, which for the first time will celebrate every aspect of cycling. This wonderful sport continues to epitomise values such as commitment, determination, perseverance and teamwork that also lie at the very foundations of our company”.

About the UCI: Founded in 1900 in Paris (France), the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is the worldwide governing body for cycling. It develops and oversees cycling in all its forms, for all people: as a competitive sport, a healthy recreational activity, a means of transport, and also just for fun. The UCI manages and promotes the nine cycling disciplines: road, track, mountain bike, BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, cyclo-cross, trials, indoor cycling and cycling esports. Five of these are featured on the Olympic Games programme (road, track, mountain bike, BMX Racing and BMX Freestyle), two in the Paralympic Games (road and track) and four in the Youth Olympic Games (road, mountain bike, BMX Racing and BMX Freestyle).
