Health & Environment
MAPEI is committed to providing the industry’s best and most innovative solutions achieved through the consistent practice of following sustainable principles. This requires a sense of responsibility and the ability to make concrete choices in order to supply designers, contractors and customers with long-lasting products that are reliable, are durable and have the lowest impact possible on our health and the environment. This practice unites leading-edge Research and Development with in-the-field technical experience gained from 80+ years of participating in some of the most challenging, iconic construction sites worldwide. Each project presents an opportunity for MAPEI to reassess and refine – becoming more efficient and more sustainable – be it changes to product transporting, packaging or formulation. In fact, our products can contribute to green building standards and certification systems, such as LEED, in areas including recycled content, low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, reduced VOC emissions, improved indoor air quality, and reduced impact on the environment. Another important contribution to eco-sustainability is made through the development of products with improved mechanical performance characteristics and durability. By enabling structures to be fabricated with an intrinsically longer service life, such products lead inevitably to a reduction of waste materials and lower consumption of materials and energy for their production.
Our future-minded focus is the result of our constant commitment to develop innovative, efficient formulas that can be integrated to form complete application systems. Maintaining quality standards of excellence also requires significant, targeted investments. Excellence, however, is not just something you can declare: Our intent is that whatever we communicate is also measurable, measured and certified by external bodies who can evaluate our claims objectively.
In 2019, we were awarded the GreenStep International Environmental Award for our company-wide dedication to sustainable practices. The award recognizes our commitment to following environmentally friendly methods in all of our subsidiaries. At the time we won the award, of our 81 subsidiaries in 56 countries, 42 were certified as ISO 9001, 31 were certified as ISO 14001, and 17 were OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001.
At MAPEI, we are committed to protecting and developing our greatest assets: Our planet, our processes and our people – that is, our employees and the communities where we live and operate. We provide our customers with innovative solutions and products that transform and protect the world around us. Our growing line of sustainable products is a reflection of this commitment.
