The Kuala Lumpur Sports City is a re-development of the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex which was built for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Phase 1 of the works, valued at about RM1 bn, started in Jan 2016. The facilities will re-open in time for the 2017 SEA Games in August. The re-design and upgrade of the National Aquatic Centre includes new tiling works to the Olympic-standard competition pool, warm-up areas, a diving pool, and a training pool. With the selection of imported porcelain tiles from Italy for the pool floor and wall coverings, the contractor wanted a reliable and trusted brand of waterproofing and adhesives for the installation works. MAPEI was selected to provide the full system, starting from TOPCEM PRONTO and NIVOPLAN mortars for floor and wall leveling respectively, MAPELASTIC + MAPENET 150 and MAPEBAND for waterproofing and joint sealing, KERABOND T + ISOLASTIC 50 and KERAFLEX for tile-fixing, and ULTRACOLOR PLUS and KERAPOXY for joint grouting. (KERAPOXY was selected for use in the saltwater pools) |
