Product compatibility was the main requirement of the project due to the number of different tiles, glass mosaics, and large pavers used on site.
The client requested a one-stop system approach and leaned on Mapei’s technical advice for a complete system. An anti-efflorescence system was considered as well. As the first step, the Shell needed to be repaired and waterproofed. PLANITOP SMOOTH AND REPAIR were used due to the speed, strength, and thickness range of the application. This product was chosen for its all-around performance and could also be used on Walls and floors without any issues. Pipe penetrations were treated where required with MAPEPROOF SWELL and LAMPOSILEX. Eporip that was sand seeded while tacky was also applied to difficult to bond too surfaces to create a key for subsequent membranes. Once the shell was suitably repaired and ready for waterproofing, PLANISEAL MR was chosen due to the constant rainfall in Cairns and its ability to be applied to damp concrete substrates. PLANISEAL MR also acted as a primer for MAPELASTIC SMART, which was chosen for its robust performance and past references in swimming pools by the tilers. Tile adhesives were chosen based on anti-efflorescence and bond strength. Large stone tiles and small glass mosaics were installed with a KERAPOXY range of adhesives and grouts. The products were selected due to the bond strength of the glass mosaics and also the anti-efflorescence properties. Surrounding Stone KERAFLEX MAXI S1 was used due to its performance on previous jobs. KERANET was used to clean the epoxy residue, and ULTRACARE easy-off gel was used for old residue that was missed and left too long. MAPESIL AC was used to finish off all joints and edges and the aesthetics of the job was completed to a professional level. |
