Mapei’s crack isolation solution 'Mapetex System’ was used in this project to protect the porcelain tiles installed above the screed from cracking due to potential substrate issues.
Mapei MAPETEX SYSTEM was installed as an anti-fracture membrane in non-woven fabric that enables ceramic floor tiles to be installed on substrates with cracks. It allows tiles to be installed without respecting the position of check joints to prevent unsightly cuts in tiles. Applying on cracked substrates prevents cracks in sublayers from propagating to the tiles and damaging new flooring. The MAPETEX SYSTEM was installed onto the concrete substrate using Mapei ULTRALITE T FLEX S2. This one component, lightweight cementitious adhesive can absorb deformation in the substrate and tiles due to its high deformability. ULTRALITE T FLEX S2 was also used to install the porcelain tiles on top of the MAPETEX SYSTEM. Further, Mapei KERACOLOR GG, a polymer-modified cementitious mortar, was used to grout the interior and exterior joints. MAPESIL AC, a solvent-free, pure acetic silicone sealant, was used to seal and maintain the look to last over time. |
