Milan, 2nd May 2021 - Mapei has always been closely connected to sport. After its incredible adventure with a professional cycling team that was at the top of the international rankings for a decade, it has officially owned U.S. Sassuolo Calcio since 2003, an investment that began as a kind of “payback” to the ceramics manufacturing district that was responsible for Mapei beginning its internationalisation operations. To support the team’s activities, the Group bought Reggio Emilia Stadium in 2013, which is now known as Mapei Stadium, and it also opened the Mapei Football Center in Sassuolo in 2019.
With the same kind of commitment to local communities, the multinational’s companies support numerous sporting projects worldwide, including several football teams, promoting the kind of values associated with sport that are part of the Group’s DNA, such as: hard work, talent, teamwork, enthusiasm, determination and perseverance in taking on new challenges.
Club Atlético Lanús - Argentina
In Argentina where football is part of the cultural identity, Mapei supports Club Atlético Lanús, the team from the district of the same name in Buenos Aires that plays in the Primera División, Argentina’s top football league. As well as being one of Argentina’s most prestigious teams that can boast a great tradition of footballing triumphs, it is also one of the most highly respected clubs for its community work, seriousness and sense of responsibility. Despite the fame it has attained, Club Atlético Lanús has remained faithful to its identity and its roots. Founded in 1915 at a “social club”, Lanús is still committed to promoting a close relationship with members of the community by promoting and organising over 30 inclusive amateur sports and other activities. Its numerous victories in Argentina include: Apertura Tournament - 2007, Transición Tournament - 2016, Bicentenario Cup 2016 and Argentinian Supercopa 2017; on the international stage it can boast wins in the Copa Conmebol in 1996 and Copa Sudamericana in 2013 and was runner-up in the Copa Libertadores de América in 2017.
Tauro Fútbol Club - Panama
Mapei supports Tauro Fútbol Club in the Republic of Panama. The club was founded in 1984 by the Italian industrialist Giancarlo Gronchi, a great Juventus fan who chose black and white as the club colours. The team is based in Pedregal in the city of Panama and has been playing in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol (LPF) since 1988, the year when the tournament was first established. The winner of 13 national championship and semi-finalist in the Concacaf Champions League in 2018, it is the reigning Liga champion. Tauro was also one of the founding teams of ANAPROF in 1987.
KIL Toppfotball - Norway
The Group’s commitment to football in Norway involves its sponsorship of KIL Toppfotball, the best team in Kongsvinger and the pride of the region. Founded in 1892, the club has been associated with the Mapei Group since 1988. Mapei also supports, the club’s women’s and youth teams and has helped first-team players by offering them the services of Mapei Sport Research.
Dunav Ruse - Bulgaria
In Bulgaria, Mapei supports the local football team, Dunav Ruse, which was founded in 1949 in Ruse, where one of the Group’s manufacturing plants is located. The club currently plays in the third division of the Bulgarian football league. Mapei technicians and managers from Sassuolo Football Club provide support to the club’s young children and youth players.
